Living manifesto: Inclusion and awareness of diversity

Category

Prioritising the places and people that need it the most

Project Description

My project is a living manifesto: equal rights and an end to discrimination based on ethnic origin, gender, religion, language, age or sexual orientation. It is a soft revolution through songs and through a band: four special male singers dressed in 60s fashion, aided by the band that will strictly play American tunes from the 60s in depressed areas.

Music, happiness and fun with T.T.S -- teaching culture through diversity! Come experience a lighthearted message against homofobia e transphobia!

Description of the project

Summary

The idea came from a project that aims to uplift the human spirit through happiness and lightness of being, much like when it was necessary to begin again after WWII.  The Sars Covid 2 virus has diminished and even demolished people's spirit and has radicalized many toward conservatism to the detriment of art, culture, and diversity. We need to intervene right away in order to raise awareness and transmit to the audience happiness and a will to begin again. With a musical group lead by male singers dressed as women, we hope to raise awareness to the audience that another world is both real and possible at the same time. The musical group will have as its singers men elegantly dressed as women from the 60s, singing covers of 1960s American songs. Trendy to Scream is particularly aimed at those of all ages who live on the outskirts of the city.

Key objectives for sustainability

The project aims to promote circularity and environmental sustainability through its emphasis on used, vintage clothing in the dressing of its participants.  We aim to reuse clothes from older generations (through grandparents, older friends, thrift stores, etc.) in order to promote the local economy, as well as inter-generational connections. Part of our aim is to also introduce and remind the audience that used and vintage clothing can be just as fashionable and elegant as newly-made products, but without the negative environmental effects.

This aspect of the project is exemplary because it involves more than one generation and, as generational connections develop and grow, we will help those of all ages to embrace the reusing and repurposing of previously-used clothing while also rejecting "fast fashion".

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

Among the key objectives of the project is its emphasis on visual aesthetics. Our singers will be men dressed as women, in an elegant and period-accurate way.  Their clothing will be vintage clothing that has been selected for its historical accuracy and beauty.  Our musicians will also be dressed in an elegant and period-accurate way. Finally, the performance or stage/area will be set in plazas and public parks that, while located in the outskirts of the city, are recognized as beautiful and fascinating.

Furthermore, we will also emphasize auditory aesthetics.  Our singers will perform traditionally 1960s "girl group" songs in their own voices and our musicians will play their own instruments (there will be no lip-synching or use of playback in any performance).

This aspect of the project is exemplary because we will present our show to an audience who is perhaps not used to seeing such events in their neighborhood and we therefore hope to expand their aesthetic experience.

Key objectives for inclusion

The project was created to generate a creative and inclusive sensibility through music and fun. The project aims to develop an awareness of gender diversity through the public's participation in its performances. The creative choice of TTS to have its performances conducted by men dressed as women, performing songs originally recorded by women in the 1960s, will push its audience to understand and appreciate that traditional gender roles can be not only reversed but also overcome.

We also aim to emphasize accessibility and affordability in that the performances will be in public plazas and other spaces that are easily accessible with public transport, without any cost to the audience.

Furthermore, we hope to truly personify inclusion by involving people of all ages in our project, allowing generational connections to develop and grow -- we want to provide opportunities for older generations to share their positive experiences, as they relate to the songs, the clothes, etc., with others of different generations and our performances will foster this.

We will, in addition, promote citizen engagement by involving all of the audience as they are introduced to the music of another time, and involve them in dancing, singing, and so forth.

Finally, this aspect of the project is exemplary because we will promote equal opportunity by striving to include people of all genders, age groups, races, sexual orientations, nationalities, and ethnicities through TTS and its universally fun music that we hope will allow for more profound reflection on diversity, inclusion, and even love.

Innovative character

The band will use the clothes of grandmothers and others from older generations in order to promote a circular economy, stimulating the audience to dress vintage. The aesthetically elegant male singers dressed as 1960s women will be able to involve several generations, sensitizing the audience to gender diversity and giving joy and lightheartedness to the participants. In addition to the male singers, there will be a live band that will animate the squares, parks, places that are easily accessible even to the elderly and disabled. In addition, the potential involvement of a significant staff -- including costume designers, make-up artists, singers, musicians and others -- could lead to further engagement in the community and even future employment.

My project is exemplary because it is a living manifesto: equal rights and an end to discrimination based on ethnic origin, gender, religion, language, age or sexual orientation. TTS will be a soft revolution through the songs, through the male singers dressed as women, through the music, and through the participants and observers spreading the good mood that will inevitably generated by each performance.
