NEB Prizes 2023: All Applications

The theme of the 27th Biennial of Design (BIO 27) was exploring a growing and ambitious movement that takes inspiration from vernacular architecture and design to shape a more resilient and equitable future. BIO 27 brought together forward-thinking and environmentally conscious designers, architects and professionals from other disciplines. Within the several months-long collaboration process they developed projects for the exhibition that tackled possible alternatives for the future.

SPACES is an immersive experience that merges contemporary performance and the ancient art of storytelling. The project simultaneously aims to challenge and reimagine the traditional model of touring in the arts sector : SPACES is a place-specific participatory work, created and performed with the local community that gives this place its life and identity.

Cities like Barcelona must reformulate tourism.
Tourism must stop being a polluting industry to become a factor of social integration.

The ANTIGA CASA BUENAVISTA Hotel is a family project that integrates tourism to the local inhabitants and provides a sense of BELONGING to the visitor. It does it in two ways:

-Reinterpretation of Traditional Construction.
-Introduction of Circular Economy for the Neighborhood.

The A-GAIN GUIDE shows all Berlin citizens the most efficient, sustainable & creative ways to repair, upcycle, recycle, rent out and pass on their used clothes locally.
The first digital platform of its kind, developed with open-source coding by NGO Circular Berlin & social business LoopLook, informs consumers in a playful way about how to prolong the life of their clothes. The beautifully designed integrated tools indicate the best suited reuse services & initiatives in their neighbourhood.

The Palace of Imagination is both a process and a series of multifunctional small structures and collective spaces that were built to tackle the needs of the residents of Emboladoura neighborhood through different participatory strategies. “PI” was able to convert socio-spatial vulnerability into a transforming movement, where each “individual being” and “the collective being” can expand their imaginary, and thus overcome external and self-imposed oppression.

The LIFE-myBUILDINGisGREEN project aims to increase the resilience of educational buildings through the implementation of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) as prototypes of climate adaptation and improved well-being. The first set of NBS has been implemented in a Spanish school in a rural area. We have got a significant reduction in the temperature inside the building at the same time we have increased local biodiversity, produced new living educational material and beautified the environment.

To consolidate the transformative intent of Valencian Land &Urban Law TRLOTUP, these ‘Guidelines for Gender Perspective Mainstreaming in Urban Planning Actions in the Valencian Community’ addresses three objectives: 1.To support decision-makers in the process of reflection. 2.To support urban planning drafting teams in the process of transferring determinations relating to gender mainstreaming to project decisions. 3.To advise the drafting teams through recommendations and suggestions.

The STADTBAD Kunstforum Brandenburg transforms the historic Bauhaus Stadtbad (1930-2000) into an interdisciplinary, international art forum. The virtual Stadtbad VIRTUAL BATHING has been expanded into an interactive, multimedia, digital art, laboratory and place of remembrance. We need new, holistic, intuitive, reflective places where social beauty, new interfaces between society, art and science and barrier-free inclusion of the population are possible.

A mural shaped from bioplaster developed by Blanka Byrwa, made with students and put on the facade of Primary School No. 17 in Gdynia. Jacek Wielebski's design represents seaweed – macroalgae from which sodium alginate is sourced, highlighting the problem of rapidly diminishing biodiveristy in the Baltic Sea. The plaster was made out of waste from the school canteen, local restaurants and construction waste collected from the immediate surroundings of the school.

Una notte al Museo 2022 is a series of events characterized by the opening in the evening of museums where, alongside the traditional visit, social-reactive and educational moments are created to unite the community and shape a sense of belongingness to the territory. The project transforms cultural institutions into beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive spaces, attracting citizens to back museums and revealing space from a new perspective, where everyone can find a cultural offer for themselves
