Description of the project

Summary

What is the problem?
According to the Swedish Environmental Research Institute, it is estimated that every Swede throws away an average of 8 kilos of textiles per year, which is almost 200 tonnes of textile waste every day.
According to ThredUp, 64% of the 32 billion garments produced each year end up in landfills.
This is happening because nowadays there is no way of disposing of unnecessary clothing that is eco-friendly, attractive and simple for the consumer.
An alternative solution is needed to ensure that people do not have to give away for free or throw away clothes. The sales of all unwanted textiles must be eco-friendly, simple and profitable.

What is the solution?
Vomerce will provide people with alternative ways to dispose of their clothes, thus reducing textile waste. Our solution enables all people to earn money from all used clothes quickly and easily with a guaranteed price per kilo at Reverse Vending Machines.
Using image analysis (near-infrared and visual spectroscopy) and x-ray scanning, our machines will be able to value users' textiles. The combination of these technologies protects us against frauds. Each user will receive an instant verification and valuation after putting the garments into the machine and will be able to choose whether to receive the money or select a charity to which Vomerce will donate the user's money.
Zero waste logistics is an important part of the project, so the textiles will be segregated in the machine and will go directly from the machine to the partners who buy clothes from Vomerce.

Customers:
Through our customer research we identified two main target groups - families with kids who are looking for a convenient way of disposing of clothes and Generation Z, who are interested in giving clothes a second life.
To reach the target audience, Vomerce will install machines in strategic locations, such as shopping malls, retail stores, and recycling stations, where individuals can easily access them.

Key objectives for sustainability

Vomerce contributes to society by creating incentives that encourage people to give clothes a second life and using textiles for recycling and upcycling. We help consumers take an active role in reducing waste and contribute to raising awareness about the environmental impact of fashion.

EU consumers discard 5.8 million tonnes of textiles every year, with only 25% of these post-consumer textiles being recycled. Our goal is to bring textiles into reuse, thereby increasing the amount of textiles that are recycled. Through upcycling products and materials are reused and repurposed, reducing waste and minimizing the environmental impact.

According to Bloomberg, the fashion industry is the second-largest industrial polluter, accounting for 10% of global pollution. Our solution contributes to putting clothes back into circulation and encouraging people to use second-hand clothes. More people will have access to good quality second-hand clothes, thus less textiles will end up in landfills.

Goal 12 - According to Bloomberg, the fashion industry is the second-largest industrial polluter, accounting for 10% of global pollution. The solution of buying clothes from people contributes to putting clothes back into circulation and encourages people to use second-hand clothes.

Goal 11– With our innovative Machines we can take control of the whole second-hand clothing market, contributing to the fight against fast fashion, while providing users with a quick sale of old clothes and continued access to high quality second-hand clothes.

Goal 1- All users will be able to choose whether they want to receive money or support the charities. One of Vomerce's aims is to be transparent and work with charities and donate financial aid to people below the poverty line.
