Description of the project

Summary

The project fits the and reflects New Bauhaus approach in term of its achieved results:
1 Decreased energy consumption and increased number of EE and RES tools among consumers. Installation of solar charging stations in Botosani and Ivano-Frankivsk with free WiFi access points will allow to calculate amount of generated electricity and it’s equivalent to energy needed for consumers purposes. Consumers, who will participate in work of EMAs and InnoSciPromo Centers will get information about decreasing energy consumption tips, that they can use in their every-day life.
2 Focusing consumers on climate change mitigation issues. Promotion and implementation of SECAPs should make a positive impact upon society and will increase sustainable use of natural resources, reduce the impact on the environment and will lead to increasing renewable energy production, energy efficiency, energy savings and recycling, that in its turn will cause CO2 reduction and have positive impact on climate change mitigation
3. Increased awareness on innovative science promotion services provided among local stakeholders. Conducting of various activities (trainings, workshops, excursions, tours) allows to involve and develop interest of locals and
organizations for joint creation and implementation of successful energy projects, the launch of start-ups and ideas and dissemination of them to a larger contact.
Possibility of engagement of different target groups will spread more information and will also develop cooperation.

Key objectives for sustainability

1) Quality of experience, including style/aesthetics, healthy and safe living environments. Photovoltaic powered charging station for electric cars (first in Ivano-Frankivsk region) installed reflects this value since it brings new quality of life locally in Ivano-Frankivsk and Botosani. Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

2) Sustainability, including circularity. We have monitored and validated Sustainable energy action plans (SEAPs) of Ivano-Frankivsk and Botosani. Additionally based on this actions we have provided detailed proposal and amendments to the city councils aimed on better energy efficiency and use of renewables. This was especially crucial in Autumn-Winter 2022/2023 for Ukraine due to massive shelling of energy infrastructure by Russian armed forces https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hI7gbGtxGYCyvG8PGgn8aOxkPMLbIdrC/view?usp=share_link

Key objectives for inclusion

3) Inclusion, including accessibility and affordability. We have enhanced and expanded interactive area Science museum "New Energy" in Ivano-Frankivsk and opened new one in Botosani aimed and designated for wide audience with focus on children. Till now nearly 5000 visitors in both locations have experienced the funny and hands-on science and technologies https://gobrit.org.ua/2021/12/01/оновлення-експозиції-для-наукового-м/

Results in relation to category

Despite the war in Ukraine we were able to reach all planned results getting in some indicators number higher than those planned.

We would like to showcase the project spinoff - project team from NGO BRIT and Ivano-Frankivsk national technical university of oil and gas utilized the experience gained and developed PV-powered portable charing stations. By now more than 50 such charging stations were produced and delivered to people in de-occupied Ukrainian regions and armed forced of Ukraine. How Citizens benefit

The education system as we know it in the border regions of Romania and Ukraine is not the most effective way to make the young generation understand energy science or emphasize energy efficiency behavioral change.
For the young generation it can be hard to connect the concepts of energy efficiency to their everyday lives, without practical application and tangible experiences.
Education in the border regions struggle to keep up with these evolving topics, while students decrease interest in science and teachers have few practical tools for teaching complex topics.Could we go beyond the transfer of knowledge and include the development of skills to make young generation understand the science of energy without boring or overwhelming them?
We created a research project to implement innovative education using new technologies like software tools and demonstration units on energy science and renewable energy sources.
This can convince the young generation that energy efficiency solutions are real, viable and easy to reach
We launched the first ever “science city” center in Botosani and upgraded with new scientific exhibitions the center in Ivano Frankivsk.
The centers educate and inspire both children and lifelong learners of all ages (excursion visits, mini lectures, scientific theater, camps, trainings for residents and community energy managers).
Have you ever seen a Tesla Energy Show? These kids will and they can do more that:
charge their phones with energy generate by spinning wheel of the bicycle
see how thermal energy is transferred or solar and wind turbine energy is produced
receive advice on reducing energy consumption;
Isn’t it the best way to make them understand what electricity is ?

Innovative character

The project supports driving towards encouraging and increasing interest to innovative education and
research for climate change mitigation which is an urgent problem for Romania and Ukraine. Gathering data
and shedding light on existing structures, initiatives and research already carried out and by understanding
the scenarios related to green economy, and comparing them with the opportunities for economic and
social development of partner countries, it is possible to draw attention to the not yet used opportunities or
the possibilities emerging from further research and innovation towards green economy. By bringing light to
existing research projects and themes, further multidisciplinary research themes can be identified along with the available and missing knowledge and skills, and partnerships. The results of the stocktaking on actors,
resources, and on the needs and barriers for green economy will be promoted through local authorities and
companies and will be disseminated through various for an adequately chosen for the purposes of the
target groups. This way, all relevant levels of the society (from policy makers through businesses to the civil
society) can be reached and informed so as they can participate in the process of developing towards a
green economy. Building sustainable innovation partnerships is one of the important preconditions of
development cooperation between Romania and Ukraine. The project has created and built capacities
in innovation and technology transfer in partner countries and it is going to contribute to bridging the gap
between research, innovation and business in the field of climate change mitigation.

Disciplines/knowledge reflected

In our InnoSciPromo centers we have included science, innovations and public awareness rising in the areas of energy-efficiency, basic physics, technologies, environment and many more. Our visitors (5,000+) experience gamification in order to perceive the key project outcomes.

Methodology used

Project RO-UA Par4CM is aimed to create an Energy Management Agencies (EMAs). EMA, which are
formed by local authorities, municipalities and HEIs with students and staff, will serve for implementing and
monitoring the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP). This has activated the education at all
levels to create awareness and ensure that the local community joins the public administration in the efforts
to make efficient use of energy resources. This also works in order present viable solutions in order to improve energy efficiency in the administrative field to all the stakeholders in Botosani and Ivano-Frankivsk.
Establishment of an innovantive instalation of city solar charging station with the help of PBM in Botosani
and DIPPIRTCP and IFNTUOG in Ivano-Frankivsk with on-line monitoring of produced energy by
PV(PhotoVoltaic) panels and its consumption by charging of the cars on municipal parking station showed good
example of using EE and RES application and advertise of using such application. Creating and developing the Inovanive Science Promotion(InnoSciPromo) Centers in Botosani as a
Department of EMA in Botosani in collaboration with local higher education institution. The model of such
an InnoSciPromo center will be taken from innitiative of Science City "New Energy" in Ivano-Frankivsk
(http://newenergy.if.ua). This center will be an inovative platform for individuals to research and study EE
technology, develop own solutions of climate problems with the help of modern equipment and software.
In Ivano-Frankivsk InnoSciPromo center also will be a part of EMA but it is a second stage of
development of local Science City "New Energy". And it will include previous experience of functionality
with new inovative exibitions for promotion of Science

How stakeholders are engaged

Our partnership included 2 municipalities (Ivano-Frankivsk, Botosani), university (Ivano-Frankivsk national technical university of oil and gas) and NGO BRIT as lead partner. Thus we suppose we have become a good example of cooperation of different stakeholder groups both at regional/national and European levels.

Global challenges

The project contributed to the climate change mitigation in triple manner: (1) directly and technically through installation of photovoltaic powered charging stations for electric cars, (2) consultancy to local municipalities via monitoring and validation of sustainable energy action plans with detailed recommendations to various stakeholders, (3) public awareness campaign at InnoSci promo centers with focus on younger generations

Learning transferred to other parties

The concept of interactive museums as InnoSci promo centers have proved its efficiency in terms of dissemination, networking and wide public coverage. This concept shall be replicated in other regions and countries
