Description of the project

Summary

Our goal is to create an interactive educational trail "The Path of Harmony with Nature" through the territory of the Gorgany Environmental Research Unit of Gorgany Nature Reserve, which would provide an opportunity to learn about the unique landscapes and biodiversity of the eastern part of Gorgany mountain range to people with disabilities.
Tasks:
- to create an accessible pathway from the Gorgany Environmental Research Unit office to the beginning of the educational trail and throughout the entire route;
- to develop and install interactive informational elements (interactive stands, tactile stands) informing about the nature values of the Gorgany Nature Reserve;
- complete the educational trail with innovative technologies (VR and audio guide);
- hold a ceremonial opening of the trail with the elements of environmental education.
Target audience: people with physical disabilities, children, anyone interested.
Quantitative and qualitative indicators:
As a part of the implementation of the project, we expect the educational trail to be visited by 100 people with physical disabilities yearly.

Key objectives for sustainability

The interactive educational trail "The Path of Harmony with Nature'' will create suitable accomodations for constant and systematic access of people with physical disabilities to engagement with natural landscapes.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

Interactive informational elements of the educational trail (interactive stands, tactile stands) will contribute to the aesthetic aspect of engagement with nature.

Key objectives for inclusion

A specially equipped trail will allow people with physical disabilities to engage with natural landscapes and to perceive their connection to them.

How Citizens benefit

The educational trail "The Path of Harmony with Natureā€ involves innovative and interactive elements for people with limited physical abilities, which will enable the Gorgany Nature Reserve to popularize the untouched natural heritage of Eastern Gorgany for new social groups. For the Pasichna rural territorial hromada the project will create a new sightseeing area to attract tourists from different categories.

Physical or other transformations

It refers to other types of transformations (soft investment)

Innovative character

The innovative nature of the project is manifested through the installation of interactive stands and the use of innovative technologies (VR and audio guide), which will comprehensively help to learn about the natural values of the only natural reserve in the Carpathian region. This event will be held for the first time on the territory of the ethno-cultural region "Nadbystryska Hutsulshchyna" and Ivano-Frankivsk oblast.

Disciplines/knowledge reflected

There are interdisciplinary connections in the development and implementation of the project between biology, ecology, geography. These connections will help to comprehensively reveal the diversity of ecosystems of the Gorgany Nature Reserve.

Methodology used

During the development of the project, the following goals were taken into account:
- unimpeded access throughout the entire route of the educational trail, based on existing state building regulations adressing the inclusiveness and accessibility of buildings and structures, as well as footpaths;
- all possible options for involving people with physical disabilities into learning more about nature.

How stakeholders are engaged

Gorgany Nature Reserve - an object of the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine (national and international level);
NGO "Nadvirna Tourist Information Center" (local level).

Global challenges

A global challenge today is the existence of significant barriers for people with disabilities to be able to contemplate and learn nature and connect to it. The reason for this is the complete absence or insufficient number of inclusive centers and educational trails that would solve this issue. The creation of such an infrastructure at the regional level will give an impetus to the partial leveling of the problem.

Learning transferred to other parties

Help and support during the implementation of the project and participation in environmental and educational activities on the educational trail "Path of Harmony with Nature". Spreading the information about the activities on the trail.
