Description of the project
Summary
Neon Studio is part of the "Sustainable Future of the Core City" initiative, where six Finnish cities join forces to enhance the functionality of city centers. Located in Jyväskylä, Neon Studio serves as a pilot project focusing on sustainable fashion and hands-on craftsmanship, aiming to promote responsible consumer behavior in the fashion and clothing sector. It offers professionally guided workshops for repairing, customizing, and maintaining clothes and accessories. Additionally, the space hosts events and handicraft clubs with a focus on circular economy principles. The studio encourages sustainable consumption by providing the opportunity for independent use of sewing machines through a one-time fee or a monthly membership.
Emphasizing the importance of circular economy, Neon Studio strives to extend the lifecycle of existing garments. The furnishing and materials for the space are acquired as much as possible from second-hand sources. While achieving complete sustainability poses challenges, Neon Studio aims to be transparent and promote learning and appreciation for what already exists. The mission is to give everyone the chance to learn to create and value what is already present.
Neon Studios' main target group is 35-55-year-old women, who are into handicrafts and fashion. Also students and people who have little money are targeted especially in our free handicrafts club.
Achieved outcomes:
- we have kept circular economy -based workshops
- free club is rolling
- children sewing camp was kept on summer 2023
- Neon's space is used by members
