House Seed is an example of affordable housing.

House Seed is homeplace and workplace for an artist. She needed healthy living, so she wanted to have a timber house in the countryside. Her natural garden is an important part of her living and art. The beauty of the garden, the building and nearby nature are important elements of this project.

The small log building like our project was financially possible. The other types of similar size of small buildings were calculated to be expensive.

The designer and all the constructors of this housing project are local craftsmen. We have worked together in all levels, with the house owner and local municipals.

The wood building like this is a carbon sink and has a long life-cycle. This kind of log buildings can be moved to another place and logs can be reused. Wood is renewable building material.

House Seed has inspired many private people to dream and build their own wooden houses. Wood building sector has continued to work further with this kind of initiative.

Because House Seed is built for an artist beauty is an essential feature of this project. House Seed is built to be experienced with all senses. Light is especially important.

Nature and the natural garden are primary components of beauty not only for experience but for biodiversity.
House Seed is a shared creation and learning process. Seeds have spread by private people and professionals. New Siblings are growing.
House Seed is an example of affordable small scale wooden building. The building process has been a learning process for local people and all who have participated it.

House Seed is the small scale, affordable, grassroot example of green transition. It reconnects into the nature and strengthens the sense of belonging to the place.

The architect of this project designed the house for and with the artist, who needed a place to live and work.

We worked all the time together with the craftsmen and other participants of the project. Neighbors and other local people have participated the project with their own capacity (work, tools...)

House Seed is tailor made but at the same time archetypal building.
In this project there is lot of traditional knowledge connected with current needs. Architecture, construction and life style is sustainable with nowadays standards. The designer, constructors and house owner have tried to find the best solutions working together.
When realized House Seed was considered to be a very small building. However, life happens also in the nature outside the house. The smaller the house the less costs.

House Seed is a hybrid building solution, mostly timber, but the bathroom is light concrete brick construction inside a green house. This solution minimize the moisture damages of the building.
This project is a design project. It is based on the tradition and the knowledge of modern wood building and sustainable architecture.

Working together, all the participants of the project have shared the knowledge and created together first the plan and further the real-life solution.
The idea of this project is universal. The methodology, technology, processes, products and learnings can be replicated and transferred to other places, groups of beneficiaries and context.
"Act local, think global."

The log buildings like this can be the solutions of affordable housing also for earthquake areas and rebuilding sites.

Same wood building can be modest or luxurious at the same time.
