The project combined community greening, urban space decoration with alternative energy sources, and infrastructure for separate waste collection.
The goal of the project is to unite the residents of the village around the theme of eco-restoration and community greening, as well as support the morale of residents by jointly creating a sakura alley on the central street of the town as a symbol of life and immortality of generations,” the organization says.
The sakura trees planted as part of the project decorated the main street of Novaya Ushytsia. The tree has a particularly symbolic meaning for this community: In this difficult time, sakura for us is not only a symbol of love, tenderness and beauty, but also a symbol of life in all its manifestations. This is a reminder to all residents of the community: no matter how difficult the times are now, we still need to live, take care of ourselves and nature, because we must, despite everything, keep our community blooming and green for our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The Novoushytsia settlement territorial community includes 59 settlements - 2 settlements and 57 villages. The population of the community is 25,675 people. The administrative center of the community is the settlement of Nova Ushytsia, a picturesque and tidy town with a population of 4,675 people. The main idea of the project is to continue a good tradition that has existed for several years, namely: in the spring, a large toloka is organized in all settlements, which is joined by residents of the community and, through joint efforts, cleaning of streets and public places, cutting down bushes and planting seedlings of young trees is carried out. In Nova Ushytsia, 30 young Sakura trees are already growing on the central street, which were planted during the tolokas of the past two years in a row on part of the central street of the village. Another beautiful tradition that originated nearby is when the class of graduates of the Novoushytsky Lyceum, in memory of themselves, of their school years, plants their own Sakura in front of the educational institution, which also complements the Sakura Alley started on Podilska Street, which is the central street of the community center. You may ask, why Sakura? In this difficult time, Sakura for us is not only a symbol of love, tenderness and beauty, but also a symbol of life in all its manifestations. And as a reminder to all residents of the community that, no matter how difficult times are now, you still need to live, you need to take care of yourself and nature, because life goes on and we must, no matter what, keep our community blooming and green for our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The eco-space equipped within the project includes 2 park benches with solar panels, a set of bins for separate waste collection and a street information stand with information about the project’s activities. “The solar benches are equipped with photovoltaic panels, which makes them an excellent source of clean energy, which is then used to charge mobile gadgets via USB sockets or wireless chargers. Thanks to the project, even during power outages, community residents and their guests can always recharge their gadgets. An ECO location was set up on the territory of the Novoushytsky Lyceum for sorting waste and disseminating information about all planned activities within the framework of the subgrant by installing a set of bins for separate waste collection and a street information stand with information about the project’s activities. The main goal of the event is to educate the future generation in a careful attitude towards the environment, understanding the need to sort waste and a culture of separate waste collection to solve the problem of waste accumulation by partially using it as secondary raw materials.
Thanks to the implemented project, we were able to achieve significant, positive changes in the community - the central street of the village is completely greened, and the residents of the village understood what unity and common cause for the sake of future generations mean, garbage sorting is no longer just theory, but practical skills for the youth of the community, a comfortable recreation area combined with the use of alternative energy sources - not only for European countries and large cities.
The project is implemented by the NGO "Coordinates of a Successful Community" within the framework of the Sub-grant Competition organized within the framework of the project "Integration of Sustainable Development in Ukraine in accordance with the European Green Deal", which is implemented with the financial assistance of the European Union in Ukraine.
The project is implemented by a consortium of public organizations, in particular, Resource and Analysis Center "Society and Environment", Association Energy Efficient Cities of Ukraine, Ukrainian Leadership Academy, Women's Energy Club of Ukraine, Dzyga, Plato under the general coordination of DiXi Groupi NGO "DIXI GROUP". The project is implemented jointly with local authorities and community residents.
The main areas of knowledge applied in the implementation of the project are the basics of energy conservation and energy efficiency, landscaping and design of urban spaces, ecology and solid waste management. Cleaning and landscaping the environment is of great importance. First of all, green spaces significantly reduce the presence of dust and smoke in the air, play the role of a kind of filter. They affect the formation of the microclimate, because they affect the thermal regime, humidity and degree of air mobility, and also have a significant impact on people's health.
The project combined the landscaping of the community, the decoration of the urban space with alternative energy sources, as well as the arrangement of infrastructure for separate waste collection. The sakura trees planted within the project decorated the main street of Novaya Ušytsia. The tree has a particularly symbolic meaning for this community:
💭 “In this difficult time, sakura for us is not only a symbol of love, tenderness and beauty, but also a symbol of life in all its manifestations. This is a reminder to all residents of the community: no matter how difficult the times are now, you still need to live, take care of yourself and nature, because we must, despite everything, keep our community blooming and green for our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Agile - the project developed and changed during implementation, and the final result of the project changed and improved along with it. The team worked in small cycles according to the calendar schedule, the result of each was a finished function or product. In the next cycle, the event was finalized and improved. During the entire period of project implementation, monitoring and communication with project participants were carried out. All events implemented within the project were covered in social networks and on the official website of the Novoushytsk Village Council.
The implementation of the project provided an opportunity to strengthen the level of cooperation between civil society and local authorities, to unite and activate local residents around joint activities aimed at improving the lives of all residents of the village. The alley was planted not only by the local authorities and the municipal enterprise, but also by the hands of active residents, children, and youth of the community, and therefore will be especially valued and protected as a common heritage. Everyone who joined the initiative will feel their contribution and responsibility for each tree planted. If possible, similar alleys will appear in other settlements of the community. And the first eco-space will give the community residents an understanding that it is possible to be independent of traditional energy sources, and that sorting garbage is not such a difficult, but very important and beneficial task for the environment. People's consciousness will change, that not only in a big city but also in small towns it is possible to create a comfortable and nature-friendly environment. The project is completely universal and extremely relevant today. It can be completely replicated both in large cities and in cozy villages. It remains relevant for both Ukraine and European countries.
Podilska Street is the longest and is the central street in the administrative center of the community. On both sides of it, more than 70 years ago, various trees were planted - chestnuts, poplars, maples and pines. Over time, the trees grew old, the usual cleaning and pruning no longer gave the effect of renewal and more and more trees became emergency. Against the background of many social troubles, the problem of reducing the number of trees on the central street did not seem so significant and significant. Until now, their number has decreased so much that ¾ of the once green and cozy street has remained empty, here and there only chestnut plantations, a few maples and 30 recently planted Sakura trees remain. The central square in the village of Nova Ushytsia is one of the most favorite places for recreation for residents of the community and its guests. There is a lot of free space here, but there are no comfortable conditions for the rest of a modern person and an equipped location for visual observation and practical use of devices that will contribute to the preservation of nature, the reduction of the amount of non-recycled household waste and the use of alternative energy sources in everyday life. In addition, the project is aimed at solving such global problems as pollution of the planet with household waste, dependence on traditional energy sources and increased carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
Thanks to the implementation of the project, we were able to achieve significant, positive changes in the community - the central street of the village is completely greened, and the residents of the village understood what unity and common cause for the sake of future generations mean, garbage sorting is no longer just theory, but practical skills for the youth of the community, a comfortable recreation area combined with the use of alternative energy sources - not only for European countries and large cities.
