Reconstruction of building on Ljubljanska 6 street includes total recontruction of abandoned building. After complete renovation, bulding will serve as public space for programs for healthcare and education of elderly people.

Description of the project

Summary

Complete renovation of building includes preservation of cultural heritage, renovating in spirit of circularity and carbon nautrality, sustainability, adjusting to climate changes and providing new public programs for social service, education and healthcare. With expected activities will be improving accessibility of social and other public services for vulnerable groups (older people, unemployed, young foreigners), creating now jobs and employments, which will contribute to preserve active people in local environment and encouridge local economy grovth. With investment will be establishing conditions to strenghten social interactions between generations, generate more social activities and events, to strenghten competences of youth and elderly people, social economy, development of social inovations.

Objectives: - number of renovated objects of segnificant local cultural heritage (1), - number of steps for sustainable adjustment of project (9), - number of renovated public building surface (1.035,24 m2), - number of new services, duties and activities in newly renovated public areas (7), - Number of workshops, events, performances connected with new services (104)

Key objectives for sustainability

Project includes actions for adjusting to climate changes (sustainable energy source usage, sustainable waste management, reducing consumption of drinkig water, colecting and reusing rainwater, planting trees, planting plant that encourage beehive activities, energetic sanation of building, sustainable rainwater management). This initiative could be exemplary for its rainwater reuse and management and for implying sustainable energetic solutions for reducing impact on climate changes.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

Renovation of building includes specialists for contructions and architecture, who must aply measures for restoring building cultural heritage segnificance. Initiative could be exemplary for restoring building of cultural heritage, restoring original design and giving new life to building that has been involved in cultural evolution of our city for generations.

Citizens are benefiting thru improved healthcare, educational and social services. Through programs of institutions 'Ljudska univerza' and 'Zavod za dolgotrajno oskrbo' citizens will be involved .

Innovatice character is in restoring building in sustainable way, keeping cultural heritage and providing activities which will benefit local environment and people.

Disciplines or knowledge fields that interacted through planing proces are: education, healthcare, social, architecture, civil, mechanical, electrical enginering, restoration experts and city planners.

Methodology used

Aproach consisted in aknowledging services, that have deficit and implementing them in space of segnificant cultural heritage meaning, while applying sustainable methods of renovation.

How stakeholders are engaged

Local Municipality and institutions 'Ljudska univerza' and 'Zavod za dolgotrajno oskrbo' were involved in providing content and funds for investment. Regional or national engagment is planed with application for the tender for revitalisation of buldings and energetic renovating.

Global challenges

By providing local solutions we address global challenges in reducing affects on climate changes, restoring historic cultural heritage, educating and employing foreigners, providing lifelong healtcare for citizens.

Learning transferred to other parties

Elements that can be replicated or transferred are good planning practice, involvment of new building technologies for sustainable products, process of including local institutions and their programs to benefit public services. This can be replicated in restoration of old buildings by not just renovating them, but choosing the right activities and programs, that will be included.

Next steps

Muniyipality Občina Kočevje has provided funds for investment. Activities have begun with creating investment documentation, project documentation, aplying for tenders for co-financing. Reconstraction is planned for 2025 and 2026.
