Description of the project
Summary
The Gernikartez project is cutting across disciplines (arts, wellbeing, silver economy, smart spaces) and building on participation at all levels with the by redesigning physical scenarios and technological platforms to test and validate new mental and physical rehabilitation projects, offering access and collaboration with a wide spectrum of users and interest groups though Arts(stakeholders).
The project was funded by the Horizon Vitalise H2020 project and under the frame of Ozean Living lab.
Living labs are open innovation ecosystems in real-life environments using iterative feedback processes throughout a lifecycle approach of an innovation to create sustainable impact.
They focus on co-creation, rapid prototyping & testing and scaling-up innovations & businesses, providing (different types of) joint-value to the involved stakeholders. In this context, living labs operate as intermediaries/orchestrators among citizens, research organisations, companies and government agencies/levels.
Living labs are ecosystems involving stakeholders from the quadruple helix to create a shared vision, mission and strategic goals with/for their stakeholders and define multiple different innovation projects existing out of co-creation activities.
In a Living Lab, the aim is to accomplish quattro helix by harmonizing the innovation process among four main stakeholders: companies, users, public organisations and researchers.
Ocean living lab works on projects in a singular space on the Basque Coast of Urdaibai (A UNESCO reserve of the Biosphere promoting sustainability, and biodiversity) where test and innovate technologies and services among others for the physical and mental improvement of citizens through culture and welbeing practices and the use of new technologies.
Ozean Living Lab as an smart space, worked on the Gernikartez in testing and designing smart devices to monitor the health and well-being of older citiziens in collaboration with local stakeholders

Key objectives for sustainability
the Gizartek projectc has been developed in the Ozean livign lab that is located in Urdaibai.
Urdaibai, a unique environment for the development of sustainable innovative products and services and attraction of sustainable companies
Innovation lies in two main aspects:
1. The combination of limitations imposed by the characteristics of the territory (no new industries can be created) and its use as opportunities for the business fabric of the region
2. The particular management model in Living Lab format that makes it possible to turn hidden opportunities into a smart growth model
Objectives:
1. Protect ecosystems state and biodiversity
2. Improve ecosystem functioning and promoting ecosystem services
3. Promote societal wellbeing and health
4. Support the development of a green economy, and sustainable land and water management

How Citizens benefit
Gernikartez Project is supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction and recovery effort in two different ways:
For the presentation of the Results of Gernikartez we organize and event related to performing arts and invited to an Ukranian artist group located in Bilbao, ARTEM, to co-create a performing session aligned to the goals of the project. The performance took place in a cultural space where students, scientist, artist and other nterested people can admire the ucranian culture, music and dances.
Secondly we are in contact with an Ukranian entity interested in replicating the project in ucrania. Since the project is related to alleviance of stress through Performing arts and smart spaces redising the do believe that could be a good starting pont for some recovery of the country. The entity is called “Memorylab Ukraine”. It is a group of artist women that can fit very well in the scaling up of the Gernikartez project.

Innovative character
Ocean living lab works on projects in a singular space on the Basque Coast of Urdaibai (A UNESCO reserve of the Biosphere promoting sustainability, and biodiversity) where test and innovate technologies and services among others for the physical and mental improvement of citizens through culture and welbeing practices and the use of new technologies.
Ozean Living Lab as an smart space, worked on the Gernikartez project in testing and designing smart devices to monitor the health and well-being of older citiziens and in collaboration with local stakeholders validates smart methodologies, products and services together with their citizens by:
• redesigning public spaces
• giving new uses to public spaces
• adapting them to new needs: co-creating services for elder people using performing arts.

Methodology used
WE ARE USING THE LIVING LAB METHODOLOGY TO MANAGE THE ENGAGEMENT OF STAKEHOLDERS
Living Lab (LL) methodology has been used for the stakeholder mapping and working strategy considering the Gernikartze project needs.
The following questions were answered:
– (i) Who are the stakeholders involved in each of the activities to be performed?
– (ii) How are the stakeholders identified to participate in the project?
– (iii) What are the stakeholder recruitment and engagement processes the project?
These stakeholders benefited from the Living Lab approach in many different ways, for instance participating mmunicipalities got new and innovative ideas for new services, users can get the innovation they want, researchers can get study cases and public organisations can get increased return on investment on innovation research.
In order to measure SOCIAL impact of the Gernikartez project we used the Social Return of Investment as a tool for Stakeholders engagement.

Used Methodology
Establishing the scope and identifying the stakeholders.
Determining the boundaries of the analysis
Identifying the key stakeholders
Mapping the outcomes.
Outcomes represent the changes, benefits, or impacts resulting from the investment or intervention
Indicators are selected to serve as measurable markers that track progress
Evidencing outcomes and the viability.
Data is collected
Establishing impact.
Assigning monetary values to the identified outcomes and determining the overall impact of the investment
Calculating the SROI.
SROI ratio is calculated (key metric that measures the efficiency and effectiveness of the investment in generating social value)
Reporting and embedding.
Preparation and communication of the SROI analysis results

Global challenges
Ozean Living Lab was born to face territorial challenges by promoting Urdaibai's natural environment and the competitiveness of its companies through open innovation. The limitations of being a Reserve of the Biosphere provokes that most of its population and the over skilled youth needs to move to other cities to work.
In order to fight for this situation tackling unemployment, and retaining young talents a regional strategy with an international perspective was designed for the territory:
Improve the quality of life through its environmental, social and economincal credentials, based on the multifunctional use of Urdaibai’s natural assetts.

Framework for evaluating the social, environmental, and economic impact of the project. The SROI analysis helps to identify and measure the outcomes of the project that are not easily quantifiable in monetary terms, such as the creation of sustainable jobs, the improvement of technology in health sector, and the co-creation activities.
The results of the SROI analysis can be effectively communicated to stakeholders, such as investors, customers, and policymakers. By translating the social and environmental benefits into monetary terms, the value of the project becomes more tangible and relatable. This communication facilitates a deeper appreciation of the project's significance, supporting stakeholder engagement and buy-in.
The analysis sheds light on strengths and weaknesses, enabling the project team to make informed decisions and improvements that align with stakeholder values and goals. By uncovering opportunities for enhancement, the project can strive to deliver even more meaningful benefits to the community and the environment.
Provides guidance for decision-making and continuous improvement efforts, enabling the project to maximize its positive outcomes and contribute to the well-being of the community and the environment.
Stakehorders Participating:
