Project Description
We are fascinated by superheroes, by all kinds of gadgets, by schools of magic, but in fact, we forget that we have an even greater power: curiosity. It is perhaps man's most versatile tool that, if trained, allows us to do everything we dream of. We often want to escape from the city, relax and get in touch with nature through experiences. It's like we want something else... We are looking for glamorous and natural experiences.

Description of the project
Summary
The activities within the workshops is direct to study of butterflies in city parks. The collected data was processed and materialized in scientific papers that children publish in the school magazine, in specialized journals and participated in school competitions. In the coming years we want to develop the research and complete the results obtained in this project.
Key objectives for sustainability
1. Realization of the Living Tropical Butterflies Exhibition – unique event in Buzau. In total, 70 butterflies belonging to 18 exotic species have gone through the stage from pupa to adult in our greenhouse. Management factors provided scientific and specialized information about the existence and adaptability of species to specific conditions.
2. Exploring the parks in Buzau – an event that aroused curiosity to know the butterfly species existing in the urban area. The organized thematic routes collected data that will materialize in students' scientific papers.
3. Metamorphosis – activities in which students in schools received living material (butterfly species) for study, care and development in order to practically experience sciences.
4. The community of butterfly enthusiasts – an achievement that has coagulated physically and in the online environment a community that collects and proposes for identification the native butterfly species in Buzau.
5. We have triggered a unique phenomenon of non-formal education in science.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality
The "Butterfly Dream" is a project open to the community through the activities carried out, through the important number of project beneficiaries, people of all ages curious to learn more about the fascinating world of butterflies, eager to know practically how to conduct experiments, to know and protect the environment and to use it in support of community development.
Key objectives for inclusion
The project supports children to develop necessary capacities, skills and attitudes throughout school, but also throughout life. The impact of the project is materialized by children's participation in workshops where they will learn to use modern technology on observations with the help of magnifying glass and microscope, equipment for monitoring enabling factors, utensils used in the natural environment in parks, the number of participants in the activities within the workshops, visitors to the greenhouse and the exhibition of live butterflies, as well as the exhibition of children's artistic creations.
Results in relation to category
The local community become more involved in to preserve the green spaces and nature.
How Citizens benefit
The project aims to raise community awareness through information about the importance of butterflies as pollinating insects in parks. Since we intend to discover butterflies in the parks of Buzau, in the coming years we want to continue and develop our research in this field. The results of the research will materialize through thematic routes in the parks of our city. Following the activities of sanitation and restoration of vegetation (sowing the route with wild pollinating plants), we want to highlight the "Butterfly Alley" by placing information panels and signage elements, by placing insect hotels for pollinators.
Physical or other transformations
It refers to other types of transformations (soft investment)
Innovative character
The project is bringing first time in the community the way to science.
Disciplines/knowledge reflected
This is a transdisciplinary project that touch or put together domains like, Biology, Geography, Physics, mathematics, arts.
Methodology used
To invite to discover the life of butterfly and to observe the fragility of the life.
How stakeholders are engaged
Since the implementation of the project, we have received support from the community. Buzau County Council offered us space in I.C. Brătianu Park to install a greenhouse necessary for the growth and development of butterflies. The gene bank in Buzău gave us plants to give butterflies the freedom to fly and feed in an environment close to that in which they develop in their countries of origin we collaborated with those passionate about this field, researcher Dr. Ionut Iorgu Stefan from the Gr. Antipa Museum Bucharest, Mr. Enghiș Emanuel, with the only silk producers in Romania - Atelier Borangic Niculescu, who provided us with eggs for study and offered us consultancy in butterfly breeding.
A unique experience in Buzău was obtaining adults of tropical butterflies from pupae, with the precious information received from Mr. Mihai Stanescu from the Gr. Antipa Museum Bucharest, which materialized in an exhibition opened to the community in August, in I.C. Brătianu Park Buzău. Mrs. Diana Diaconu, member of the community from Buzau, edited, printed and gave to the children in the community a "Butterfly Diary".
