Description of the project

Summary

Sustainability has become one more value. For this reason, throughout these pages and in a simple, entertaining way and with a careful illustration, we have wanted to transfer to the little ones the strategy carried out by the European Commission, called "From farm to table". An action included in the so-called "European Green Deal" or "Green Deal" and which has, broadly speaking, as its goal, to achieve a neutral and positive environmental impact, help mitigate the impact of climate change, adapt to its impacts and reverse the loss of biodiversity; guarantee food security, nutrition and public health, thus ensuring that we all have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious and sustainable food. Preserving the affordability of food while generating fairer economic returns, fostering the competitiveness of the EU supply sector and promoting fair trade. The project includes the publication of a story intended for the little ones, between the ages of three and six, as well as activities and educational resources to carry out at school and at home, as a complement to a reading where the illustrations will captivate young and old and didactic games that will help fix content and concepts. Because what we learn at an early age, we never forget. The project is currently in the development phase, and the publication is being edited by the Spanish publisher BABIDI-BÚ and will be published in the third quarter of 2023.

Key objectives for sustainability

The purpose of this project is to transfer to the little ones the value of sustainability, the concepts of the green deal, the circular economy, fair trade, the importance of preserving the environment. All this through a story that will have careful illustrations, educational resources that will include complementary activities, educational games and storytelling activities. The project will be offered to educational centers and Spanish Public Administrations and the publication can be purchased in bookstores. We also have a website, www.picopericoylagranjadelabuelofederico.com, where these complementary activities and didactic games can be obtained once the book is published in the third quarter of 2023, which will establish the concepts learned in reading the story. The language of the story and educational resources will initially be Spanish but the idea is to also publish it in other coexisting languages of the European Union.

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

The idea of sustainability, the concept of the green deal, the circular economy, fair trade will be transmitted through an easy-to-understand story with attractive illustrations that will make the little ones assimilate the concepts quickly and thus be able to assimilate them. Also through the creation of didactic games and complementary activities. Educational resources that will allow the little ones to assimilate and acquire the importance of sustainability at such an early age.

Key objectives for inclusion

The project includes among its activities the development of storytelling. This will allow children with learning difficulties or visual impairment to also access the content of the story in a fun and educational way. Also with a sign language interpreter. In this way we would be achieving full accessibility and integration.

Results in relation to category

What we want to achieve with this initiative is that the youngest members of society know, understand and carry out routines and sustainable ways of life in their day to day. That their habits can achieve a neutral and positive environmental impact, help mitigate the impact of climate change, adapt to its impacts and reverse the loss of biodiversity; guarantee food security, nutrition and public health, thus ensuring that we all have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious and sustainable food. Preserving the affordability of food while generating fairer economic returns, fostering the competitiveness of the EU supply sector and promoting fair trade.

How Citizens benefit

The main beneficiaries of this initiative were children between the ages of 3 and 6. But of course it is an initiative that involves parents, teachers, cultural personnel, and personnel from the Public Administrations who receive this project in order to develop it in educational programs of the same... It is therefore an activity that allows reaching to a wide spectrum of society even though the target audience is children.

Physical or other transformations

Innovative character

The innovation of the project resides in the theme that it wants to transmit. Adapting a European policy, such as the green deal, to a children's story whose audience is a very young age. This is innovative because it is usually treated at older ages but not for such young children.

Disciplines/knowledge reflected

This project is based and created with the purpose of being an educational resource whose purpose is the transmission of the importance of sustainability and the green deal policies. Therefore, this project encompasses writing, illustration, sustainability and public policies such as the green deal.

Methodology used

The methodology is based on educational resources such as the development of a story, illustrations of the story, didactic games and representation of the story through storytelling, as well as a web page with the contents and objectives of the project.

How stakeholders are engaged

Today the only parties involved in the project are the author, the publisher and the illustrator. But we hope it will be a project that encompasses educational communities, public administrations and European institutions.

Global challenges

The project covers the challenge of achieving a sustainable world through green deal policies. This is achieving a neutral and positive environmental impact, helping to mitigate the impact of climate change, adapting to its impacts and reversing the loss of biodiversity; guarantee food security, nutrition and public health, thus ensuring that we all have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious and sustainable food. Preserving the affordability of food while generating fairer economic returns, fostering the competitiveness of the EU supply sector and promoting fair trade.

Learning transferred to other parties

It is a universal methodology. A story, some educational resources, some illustrations and some complementary activities that can be transferred and adapted to any place and at any age.
