Smart Waste Management

Basic information

Project Title

Smart Waste Management

Full project title

Smart Waste Management using Modern technique in urban and rural area

Category

Shaping a circular industrial ecosystem and supporting life-cycle thinking

Project Description

Old Waste mgmt-
Around 80% of waste collections happen at the wrong time.
Waste collection trucks drive the same route and empty every single container–even if the waste container did not need emptying
High labour and fuel costs and not sustainable way, more vehicles means more carbon emission
New SMART WASTE MGMT-
Event-driven waste collection
Solution that utilizes real-time data to make sure that waste containers are only picked up when needed
Sustainable, less costly and eco-friendly

Geographical Scope

Cross-border/international

Project Region

CROSS-BORDER/INTERNATIONAL: Denmark, Other

Urban or rural issues

It addresses urban-rural linkages

Physical or other transformations

It refers to a physical transformation of the built environment (hard investment)

No

Description of the project

Summary

Old way of doing Waste Management-
Around 80% of waste collections happen at the wrong time.
Late waste collections -
•overflowing bins,
•unsanitary environments,
•citizen complaints,
•illegal dumping, and
•increased cleaning and collection costs
Early waste collections-
•unnecessary carbon emissions,
•more traffic congestion, and
•higher running costs.
Waste collection trucks would drive the same collection route and empty every single waste container – even if the waste container did not need emptying
High labour and fuel costs and definitely not sustainable way
The more vehicles on the road carrying out unnecessary collections means more carbon emissions

Smart ‘The Future’ of Waste Management-
Event-driven waste collection
Solution that utilizes real-time data to make sure that waste containers are only picked up when needed
Sustainable, less costly and eco-friendly way of waste management

Key objectives for sustainability

Sustainable waste collection and management
Effective waste collection reduce labor cost and carbon footprint
Waste-as-a-resource concept has the potential to generate economic gain when used to create new product.
Waste-to-energy, Waste-to-new-building-material, Smart waste management to make trash collection cost efficient
Options of intelligent reuse/recycling of waste using technologies
Steps towards become carbon neutral strategy

Key objectives for aesthetics and quality

CFO Persona
Smart waste collection reduce the operation cost in a long term
Include Sustainability Data in Financial Reports
Recycle/reuse of waste can become a raw material of other companies
CSO Persona
Digital waste assortment and Robotics helps reducing the carbon footprint
Optimize route planning and schedule for waste collection create sustainable solution
CIO Persona
Modernize IT solutions to cater to sustainability initiatives
Provide digital solutions for carbon minimization
Improve process chain assessment, design innovation and automation

Key objectives for inclusion

IT Systems and components-
IoT sensors
SAP S4 HANA Public cloud
SAP Analytics Cloud SAP SAC
Robotics
Infrastructure-
New smart bins with sensors
Mobile device to send notification
Training

Results in relation to category

Number of pick ups are 20% less
Waste fill level in smart bin is 35% less then the old way of WM
Carbon emission is 40% less
Fuel are 30% less used

How Citizens benefit

Using new smart waste collection method, citizens are getting less bills because waste collection only happen when it needed, it is more sustainable, eco-friendly way to collect the waste. It will reduce the carbon footprint from the waste trucks, Waste-as-a-resource concept has the potential to generate economic gain when used to create new product. and it is the Steps towards become carbon neutral strategy

Physical or other transformations

It refers to a physical transformation of the built environment (hard investment)

Innovative character

Comparison-
Old way of Waste Management
Number of time pickup in month: 189
Average fill level: 89
CO2 emmision: 2506 Kg

New Smart Way Management
Number of time pickup in month: 151
Average fill level: 58
CO2 emmision: 1503 Kg
